Keiko Mecheri Ume, Ume is named after the Asian plum called Ume. This species of plum has spread from China to the Far East. It blooms in late winter and announces the arrival of spring, and therefore in Japan, together with sakura (cherry blossom), ume symbolizes the early spring time.
